"Eye catching spring blooms emerge on this early flowering shrub before leaves appear. Flowers become small green berries that turn red and then dark purple in early summer. Berries are sweet and very tasty (similar to blueberries) as long as you beat the birds to them first! Use berries in jams, jellies, or pies. Leaves turn a rusty red colour in the fall. Keep soil moist." (onplants.ca)
