"A beautiful mid-sized tree that will create lovely white blooms in the spring. Pin cherry produces small and edible fruits that are sour when raw but make great preserves. This tree lives only 40 years but will grow quickly and can spread through suckers. Produces a lot of fruit once mature, providing a food source for birds and other animals in the late summer, which is why this tree is also known as the Bird Cherry. Prefers dry to medium sandy soil." (onplants.ca)
